I can’t believe it’s December already! It’s the time of year when you can’t help but look back. This year was very exciting since we got to play the Water Rats, our first festival, the Lewisham People’s Day Rocklands Stage and had our first radio interview. The best thing for me was meeting so many of you out there who like our music. It’s great to watch you sing along to our songs and request them.
I ended this year with a trip to Kolkata, India to see some family. It was hot and sunny and no snow anywhere. The most we had to deal with was lots of fog at the airport. It’s a great time of year to go as it’s about 20-25 degrees Celsius. Kolkata is a bustling city, in the midst of a very agricultural state. Lots of sweets, fish and culture.
A day after arriving back from India, I took my last trip of the year — to Trondheim, Norway. This was to take part in a real Norwegian Christmas, courtesy of my sister-in -law and her family. The weather could not be more different to Kolkata (I like living on the edge). There was snow everywhere and it doesn’t stop anyone from doing anything – as the Norwegians say: “there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing”. The food was amazing – lots of salmon, lamb and cod as well as the traditional Sood dish.
Although it is not daylight for too long, when it is daylight – the sun is bright and all the snow glistens and looks like a million diamonds. I have been skating and sledging and building snowmen.
Christmas is a huge deal here and a big family event, with lots of scrumptious food. (Note scrumptious word of the month). The people here are very warm and I had lots of fun – snow also does not phase them and people drive and land/take-off planes on snow without a second thought, as everyone has snow tyres.
I also met an albino ferret and what looked suspiciously like a unicorn from a distance and just a few rounds of Aquavit (I was not drinking the Aquavit when I saw the unicorn – honest). Highlights included family singalongs to ‘California Dreamin’’ and ‘Let it Be’ around the organ.
On a personal note – Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! Thank you again to everyone who has supported us this year.
Rock on!
Anita x.
