LA Woman

This month I was back in LA, which is now starting to feel like my second home. It’s pretty much sunny all year and April was no exception, with any rain falling just as I was about to leave!

I was in LA during Coachella, pretty much like the Glastonbury festival,  near Palm Springs. Now there’s a festival I’d love to play. My flatmates Stevie and Bianca hired a big house with 10 of their friends and partied for the whole week. Stevie is a DJ and this year they went all out with lights and DJ equipment. The festival sounded like a blast and they caught some amazing acts such as The Strokes, The Chemical Brothers, Arcade Fire and Interpol.

I spent some time song-writing in LA and I played a couple of shows. We played two shows at The Whisky a GoGo the second one as headliners. That was magic– a Janis Joplin painting hung on one wall and a Jim Morrison on another, so I could see them whilst I was performing. The Whisky used to be a Go Go Dancing bar and though the poles have gone now – it was still amazing to be on the same stage as Janis and Jim and countless other stars of the classic rock era.

I finished my Sunset Strip tour with another mainstage performance at the Viper Room, which is now my local residency club! This time I was joined by Eliot on bass, Mat on guitar, Jose on keyboards/guitar and Blake on drums.

Whilst songwriting I also had the pleasure of going to a couple of LA Studios, including ‘The Record Plant’ where Guns and Roses recorded Use Your Illusion I&II and Lady Gaga recorded ‘The Fame Monster’.  Hendrix recorded ‘Electric Ladyland’ at the studio’s New York branch.

Rock on!
