BBC Introducing Live Session

A live session at BBC Introducing West Yorkshire with Alan Raw, this month — how exciting is that!  Alan Raw is like a Yorkshire John Peel and we jumped at the chance to do a live session for the show. The band consisted of Serra, a funky and very talented Aussie chick on drums and MaW rocking out as ever on guitars and me of course. The session turned into a road trip as we hired a van to drive up. Gavin Chalmers who has toured with Esben and the Witch and Pulled Apart By Horses, amongst many other up-coming bands, was our tour manager for the day and he told us many rock n roll road trip stories.

I was not surprised at some of the stories especially those about  Pulled Apart by Horses. When I last saw the band at SXSW in the U.S., they played an electric set then the singer leapt off stage, threw-up and then continued to rock out!

We nearly didn’t make it to the studio on time ourselves – not due to any rock n’ roll wildness this time, but due to the huge amount of traffic between London and Leeds!

After setting up in the studio, so we were all set to go out live on air,  Alan called me in for an interview. This was followed by our acoustic versions of Undercover, Out of Control and Playtime. And after all that hard work, we rounded off the night by going to Aagrah’s Indian restaurant next to the studio for a fantastic meal.

Brighton Acoustic

The second half of the month was pretty much spent in Brighton, at the newly set up Brighton Acoustic, in Ovingdean. It’s a wonderful recording studio with amazing views of Brighton and one of the best kept gardens I have seen in years. You could have a festival in there! Along with Producer Dan Swift, guitarist Jamie Hall, drummer George Cook and bassist Ryan Whitmore, we worked on new versions of the songs we had previously recorded as well as new songs I had been writing. It felt really good to be back in the studio working on the new and older material and letting the creative juices flow! Stay tuned for updates!

A special shout out to Rocklands this month for its brilliant Artful festival. For more info on Rocklands see its tumblr page.

Rock on!
