About

The Story So Far

  • My parents got together and I was born in Bradford with an older brother to boot
  • first song I remember – Imagine by John Lennon – it moved me and I wrote some great lyrics that only 5 years olds can write
  • missed half my first year at school due to being in Turkey and eating kebabs – I love kebabs to this day
  • joined a band at school – my maths teacher was the singer and we were called the Solids of Revolution (we all have to start somewhere)
  • the first band I auditioned for was called Love Truncheon – unfortunately I didn’t get the job
  • first song I sang in public – Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley
  • may or may not have written a song about a hairy chest
  • moved to London and the first place I went to was Denmark Street
  • busked on the London Underground and got paid for being a musician (still being underpaid as a musician right now)
  • once got paid £20 for playing ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ by Slade – never taking it out of my repertoire
  • started working with producer Junk Scientist (The Rakes, Larrikin Love)
  • got approached busking by Malik Yusef (Kanye West collaborator)
  • Lil Minx Records signs Anita Maj
  • released Out of Control and did a ‘dark and edgy’ music video featuring vampires
  • went to the US and got played on College and State Radio including KTCV and KCRW
  • met Kanye West in Texas ( ok not actually met? I was only a metal barrier and a bunch of photographers away from him)
  • The story above also applies to Axl Rose and Robert Plant
  • went to LA and bumped into Linda Perry and James Blunt in Hollywood
  • went to NYC and played CMJ (that was very cool)
  • whilst in the US, also played in Texas, New Orleans at the House of Blues and LA’s Viper Room and Whisky a Gogo
  • moved to Brockley in South London and met a lovely Rock n’ Roll family called Rocklands who took me in
  • played all over London including City Showcase Festival, Water Rats, Barfly and pretty much everywhere
  • toured Yorkshire, played Leeds and Limetree festivals and a live session on BBC Inroducing West Yorkshire with Alan Raw
  • decided to write an album
  • recorded debut album ‘Truth or Dare’ with producer, Dan Swift (Snow Patrol, Aqualung, Kasabian) in Brighton (ooh Bradford to Brockley via Brighton – there’s a song there)
  • Rockband asked to put my song Undercover on their system (cool)
  • recorded songs with Malik Yusef
  • Janis Joplin remains my all-time favourite singer

About to release our debut album ‘Truth or Dare’ and go on tour everywhere 2012
